It is often said that a room without a plant lacks life. A well chosen artificial plant solves this problem — without watering, without light requirements, without paid leave when you go on vacation.
The artificial plant contemporary has little more to do with the plasticized imitations of another era. The manufacturing techniques have progressed radically: sheets made of blown polyethylene, rods made of sheathed iron wire covered with resin, slightly matt surfaces that absorb light like the real leaf, apparent veins, natural stains, variations of green in the same leaf. At a distance, many of our models are not different from a natural plant. More closely, some details betray artifice — but it is often a reasonable sacrifice in terms of benefits.

Artificial plant: which species for which use?
The choice of species is not dependent on cultivation conditions — since there are none — but only on visual rendering and available space.
The artificial monstera is one of the most popular decorative plants of the moment, artificial or not. Its large cut, graphic and immediately recognizable leaves create a strong visual impact in any space. A large artificial monstera in a beautiful ceramic pot cache, in a seating area — it is a decorative composition that works immediately.
The artificial ficus lyrata (Lyre fig tree) is the trendy indoor plant of the last ten years. Its slender trunk and large lyre-shaped leaves give it a presence that distinguishes it from more compact plants. In artificial version, it has a considerable advantage over the real: the natural ficus lyrata is known to fall its leaves at the slightest change of place, light or temperature. The artificial version doesn't move a millimetre.
The artificial cactus and succulents allow to have desert plants in low-light spaces — a horticultural heresy but perfect decorative freedom. On a dark shelf, in a windowless office, they bring this touch of graphic and structured green that no real plant could hold on to.
The artificial pampa herbs — or pampas gras — are particularly convincing in artificial version. The true grass of pampa dries quite quickly and loses its density over time; the artificial version maintains its volume and lightness indefinitely. In a large floor vase, they create a bohemian and natural effect that is highly sought after.
Artificial plant and pot cache: the deal that does everything
An artificial plant delivered in its generic plastic jar looks like nothing. The same plant in a beautiful ceramic or rattan pot cache becomes a real decorative object. It's really the pot-cache that makes the difference — maybe even more than for a real plant, because the artificial plant does not grow, does not change, does not evolve. She'll be exactly the same in six months. As long as it's in a beautiful container right from the start.
A few simple rules for the plant/pot cache agreement: a plant with graphic and structured foliage (cactus, sansevieria, agave) is well combined with a geometric and rigid pot cache (beton, matte ceramic). A light and relapsing plant (pothos, ivy) fits better with a wicker or textured ceramic pottery. A large and imposing plant (monstera, ficus) requires a pot cache that is heavy enough and stable to ensure balance — opt for ceramic or concrete rather than light wicker.
Maintenance of artificial plants: less than we believe
The most commonly cited advantage of the artificial plant is the lack of maintenance. That is true, on the whole, but not entirely correct. The dust accumulates on the leaves — as on any horizontal surface in a room — and ends up tarnishing the appearance. A slightly damp microfiber cloth stroke every few weeks is enough to keep the plant in an impeccable state. For more detailed models or with fine textures, a little compressed air makes wonders. Avoid aggressive chemicals that can alter leaf coating, and keep artificial plants away from sources of intense heat (radiator, direct intense light for long hours) that can distort plastics over the long term.
