An inlet light fixture is the first bright impression of your interior.

The entrance light fixture structures space from the threshold, revealing volumes and materials while ensuring fluid circulation. In this passageway, lighting must combine functionality and aesthetics with formats adapted to the height under the ceiling, the width of the corridor or the volume of the vestibule. Compact ceiling lamps, aerial pendant lights, wall-mounted or orientable spotlights: each entrance light fixture responds to a precise constraint, from the simple clearance of 2 m2 to the vast cathedral entrance. The ideal colour temperature is between 2700 and 3500 K for warm light, while a luminous flux of 800 to 1500 lumens is usually sufficient for an entrance of 4 to 8 m2. The colour rendering index (IRC) of more than 80 guarantees a faithful perception of the hues, essential to choose its accessories or check its reflection before coming out.

What types of lights for an entrance?

Ceilings : The ceiling lamp remains the most common choice for an input light fixture, especially in low-height areas under ceiling (less than 2.40 m). Prefer a diameter of 25 to 40 cm for a standard input, with a LED power of 10 to 18 W (equivalent to 60 to 120 W halogen). The extra-flat models (thickness less than 10 cm) avoid any discomfort during passage. The opaline diffuser versions ensure a homogeneous light, without shadow on the floor or on the walls.

Applies : For narrow entrances or corridors, the wall-mounted light can be illuminated sideways without bulking the space. Install them 160-170 cm from the ground to avoid glare. The orientable or double-emission (high/low) wall sconces create an effective light markup. A flow of 400 to 600 lumens per application is sufficient to speed up a corridor of 3 to 5 m long.

pendant lights : In a high ceiling entrance (more than 2.70 m), the pendant light becomes a focal point. Choose a total height (cable + light fixture) that leaves at least 210 cm of free passage. The pendant lights made of glass or metal, with a diameter of 30 to 50 cm, bring character while disseminating light throughout the volume. For a graphic effect, multiply the pendant lights in clusters, spaced from 30 to 40 cm.

spotlights : Built-in or rail spotlights are suitable for contemporary entrances or long corridors. Orient them towards the passage areas or decorative elements (mirror, console). A LED spot of 5 to 7 W (400 to 600 lumens) every 1.5 to 2 m ensures continuous lighting without shadow zone.

How to choose the power and color temperature for an input light fixture?

The power of an input light fixture depends on the surface to be illuminated and the colour of the walls. For an entrance of 4 m2 with light walls, a ceiling of 1000 lumens is sufficient. If the walls are dark or the space is open on a staircase, increase to 1500 lumens. Prefer a colour temperature of 3000 K for a welcoming atmosphere, neither too yellow nor too cold. The LED bulbs offer excellent light performance (up to 100 lm/W) and a service life of more than 20,000 hours, limiting maintenance. For entries without natural light, opt for a high IRC (90+) to avoid dull hues and distorted colors.

In entrances with mirror, be sure to avoid light fixtures that are too directional and create shadows marked on the face. Prefer wide diffusers or indirect light wall sconces. For large entrances, combine several sources: a central ceiling lamp and two side wall sconces, for example, for balanced lighting.

What materials and styles do you prefer for an entrance light fixture?

Design floor ceilings : Contemporary materials such as lacquered metal, blown glass or brushed aluminum are integrated into modern entrances. Geometric shapes (square, disc, tube) are suitable for sleek decorations. A design ceiling lamp of 30 cm in diameter, black or gold finish, matches with minimalist furniture.

Wooden flooring : For a warm or Scandinavian entrance, the light wood (oak, birch) or dark wood (noise) brings a natural touch. The openwork models diffuse soft light, ideal for small spaces. A wooden ceiling lamp 25-35 cm in diameter harmonizes with an entrance bench or a mirror with a wooden frame.

Glass pendant lights : Opalin or smoked glass diffuses an enveloping light, without dazzling. The blown glass pendant lights, 20 to 40 cm in diameter, are suitable for classic or Art decorative entrances. Combine them with brass door handles or a graphic tile for a coordinated effect.

Metal wall sconces : The chrome finish, brushed brass or matt black fit industrial or contemporary entrances. Prefer IP20 models for dry spaces, or IP44 if the entrance leads to the outside or a garage.

For maintenance, dust the diffusers regularly and check the absence of finger marks on the glass or metal. The integrated LED input lights do not require any bulb changes, but make sure to choose a recognized brand to ensure the durability of the module.
