A ball light fixture is pure geometry that structures space without dizzying.

The ball light fixture imposes as an obvious in contemporary, Scandinavian or even classic interiors revisited. Its spherical shape diffuses light in a homogeneous manner, without marked shadows, making it a preferred choice for living rooms, rooms or corridors. It can be found in ceiling, pendant light, wall sconce or floor lamp, in diameters ranging from 15 to 60 cm, sometimes more for XXL models. The ball light fixture comes in opaline glass, lacquered, metal, tense fabric or polycarbonate, each material affecting the quality of the light and the general atmosphere. It adapts to low ceilings as well as to high ceilings, thanks to compact formats or modular compositions.

What materials for a ball light fixture?

Opalin glass : Opalin glass remains the reference for a ball light fixture that diffuses soft, non-sparkling light. A 30 cm diameter blown glass globe offers optimal lighting for a room of 10 to 15 m2, with an LED bulb from 800 to 1200 lumens. The frosted glass masks the light source and avoids any halo effect. For a more sophisticated touch, some models combine glass and brass or chrome.

Painted metal : The lacquered metal ball light fixtures, often in black, white or gold finish, create a marked graphic effect. They are suitable for modern or industrial interiors. The metal also allows openwork versions, playing on projected shadows. A 20 cm metal globe, equipped with a 6 to 10 W LED bulb, is sufficient for a reading corner or entrance.

Tight fabric : More rare, the light fixtures made of tense fabric on metal structure bring a sieved light, ideal for rooms or cozy lounges. The white or ecru fabric diffuses a warm light (2700 to 3000 K), perfect for creating a soothing atmosphere. Attention to dust: regular dust removal is required.

For design enthusiasts, the colored glass or crystal ball light fixture multiplies the reflections and matches with sophisticated interiors. The lighter polycarbonate models are suitable for fragile ceilings or children's rooms.

If you are looking for an alternative to glass, the collection Glass ceilings offers spherical models in various finishes, from transparent to smoky.

What size and power for a ball light fixture?

The choice of the diameter of a ball light fixture depends directly on the surface to be illuminated and the height under ceiling. For a room of 10 m2, a globe of 25 to 30 cm is ideal. Above 20 m2, prefer a diameter of 40 to 50 cm, or even a composition of several hanging balls at different heights. The total height of the ceiling shall not exceed 30 to 40 cm in a corridor or entrance to avoid any risk of impact. In pendant light, the rule: leave at least 210 cm between the ground and the base of the globe in a passing area, or 75 to 90 cm above a table.

On the power side, an LED bulb of 10 to 15 W (equivalent to 75 to 100 W halogen) is sufficient for most domestic uses. For ambiance light, descend to 5-7 W. Prefer a color temperature of 2700 to 3000 K for a warm atmosphere, or 4000 K for a more neutral light in a kitchen or office.

For the large living rooms, the pendant lights ball allow to play on volumes and bring a sculptural touch, especially in linear composition or in cluster.

Where to install a ball light fixture and how to associate it?

The ball light fixture finds its place in all rooms, provided that it adapts its format and material. In a living room, it is installed as a central ceiling or suspended above the coffee table. For a dining room, prefer a ball pendant light of 40 to 50 cm in diameter, centered at 80 cm above the table. In the bedroom, a small glass globe of frosted 20 to 25 cm, placed in bedside lamp or ceiling lamp, diffuses a soft light conducive to rest.

In an entrance or hallway, the compact ball light (15 to 25 cm) in a ceiling version or a light-emitting light-emitting light-emitting light-emitting light-emitting light. For bathrooms, check the protection rating: a minimum IP44 model is required within 60 cm of a water point.

For a coordinated atmosphere, combine a ball light fixture with a ball floor lamp in the living room, or at spherical wall sconces in a hallway. The brass, chrome or matt black finishes create elegant reminders with other decorative elements.
