Light is not a detail in an interior — that's what reveals everything else.

One light source Well chosen transforms an ordinary room into a inhabited space. It modifies volumes, creates privacy zones, highlights materials and colors, and sets up an atmosphere that neither painting nor furniture can create alone. Yet this is the element that is often dealt with last, after having decided everything — as if lighting was a technical constraint rather than a decorative tool. This mistake is expensive: a poorly lit room remains a poorly inhabited room, regardless of the quality of the furniture and the beauty of the materials. At Amberkiln, lighting is at the heart of our purpose. Our collection of light fixtures covers the entire spectrum — pendant lights, chandeliers, wall sconces, ceiling lamps, floor lamps, table lamps, recessed spotlights, exterior light fixtures — with a selection designed for aesthetics as well as for light performance.

The big families of lights and their roles

A well-lit interior never rests on a single source of light. This is the combination of several types of Light fixtures, at different heights and intensities, which creates rich and flexible lighting.

The pendant lights and chandeliers are the central light fixtures, those that visually structure the room from the ceiling. A pendant light above a dining table creates an intimate and warm area. A chandelier in a living room gives verticality and space presence. These light fixtures are the most visible, the most decorative — they are an integral part of the design of the room, even if they are turned off.

The wall panels create side light areas that warm up walls and avoid flat lighting from the single ceiling. In the bedroom, two symmetrical wall sconces on either side of the headboard replace bedside lamps to the advantage — they release night tables and create a very comfortable directional reading lighting. In a corridor or staircase, they mark the space with smooth and regular light.

The ceiling lights are the most versatile light fixtures — they illuminate an entire room from the ceiling, without going down or occupying space on the floor or on furniture. Their discretion makes it the default choice for children's rooms, offices, corridors and all rooms where you want general functional lighting without visual congestion.

The floor lamps provide point lighting at ground level or mid-height. Located next to a sofa or reading chair, a street lamp creates a light area independent of the rest of the room — a bright island that invites you to settle there. Indirect ceiling-facing lamps create a very soft atmosphere lighting that heats the space without dazzling.

Table lamps and office lamps are the most personal light fixtures. Placed on a console, dresser, desk or night table, they create light points at eye heights that warm the space in a way that ceiling sources cannot reproduce. A linen shade, a homemade ceramic base, a brushed brass foot — these lamps are also decorative objects in their own right.

How to compose coherent lighting in each room?

The rule of three levels of lighting is the basic principle of good interior lighting. Each room should ideally have three types of light sources: general lighting (plafonnier, chandelier, pendant light), ambient lighting (appliances, floor lamps, LED headbands) and functional lighting (kitchenpots, desk lamp, bedside lamp). The combination of the three makes it possible to modulate the atmosphere according to the moments — frank light in the morning, ambient lighting in the evening, directional light for reading or working.

In a living room, the classic mistake is to settle for the central ceiling. The result is a flat, cold light that crushes the space. Add an indirect floor lamp, two small table lamps and possibly a LED headband behind the TV cabinet — and the same room takes on a completely different dimension, without changing a single piece of furniture.

In a kitchen, functional lighting is a priority: LED spotlights recessed or on rail above the worktop, adjustable under the high furniture to illuminate directly the cutting surface. But a beautiful light fixture above the central islet or table turns the kitchen into a friendly space — not only functional.

In a room, banish the single ceiling lamp that requires a strong light to find its shoes in the evening. Prefer a combination of dimmable bedside wall sconces, a discrete ceiling or a chandelier of character, and possibly an angle lamp to read. The dimmer is essential in the room — it allows you to switch from functional lighting to sieved late evening light without changing light fixtures.

Colour temperature, power and LED compatibility: technical bases

The colour temperature of a bulb is measured in Kelvin (K) and conditions the room's atmosphere much more than power. Below 3000 K, the light is warm and golden — ideal for living rooms, living rooms and living spaces. Between 3000 and 4000 K, the light is neutral white — versatile, suitable for kitchens and bathrooms. Above 4000 K, the light is cold and bluish — suitable for workspaces, but to avoid in living spaces.

LED compatibility is now a standard criterion for all our light fixtures. LED has replaced incandescent and halogen in almost all residential uses — less consuming, more durable, available in all colour temperatures and caps. Most of our light fixtures accept E27, E14 or GU10 bulbs in LED version. For dimmable light fixtures, check that your LED bulbs are marked "dimmable" — not all LEDs are.

The colour rendering index (IRC) is finally a criterion often forgotten but important for areas where colours count — living room, dining room, dressing room. An IRC greater than 90 ensures that the colours of walls, furniture and clothing are faithfully restored under artificial light. Below 80, colours may appear tarnished or distorted — a detail that profoundly changes the perception of an interior.
