Choosing your photo frame: format, material and style
The first criterion is the photo format. The most common formats are the 10x15 cm (classical photo print format), the 13x18 cm, the 20x30 cm and the 30x40 cm for large formats. The framework determines the atmosphere. Natural wood — oak, bamboo, pine, floating wood — brings warmth and authenticity. The photo frame wall gallery is one of the most durable decorative trends in recent years. It allows you to profoundly customize a space, tell a story through images, and fill a large wall with something meaningful. But a poorly composed wall gallery can quickly look like a mound. Some principles to avoid it.
The unity of the framework is the easiest way to create consistency: all frames in the same finish (all black, all natural wood, all golden). Even with very different formats and photos, this visual unit is enough to give consistency to the whole.
The balance of formats : mix sizes to create rhythm — a few large formats that anchor composition, medium formats that articulate it, small formats that punctuate. A completely homogeneous composition in format lacks life.
The space between frames should be regular, between 5 and 8 cm. Too close, the frames compress; too spaced, the composition is fragmented. Before drilling the first hole in the wall, cut paper templates in your frame formats and put them on the wall with a masking tape — it takes ten minutes and avoids many regrets.
The central height of the composition should be about 155 cm from the ground, as for a single table. If the composition is very high or very wide, focus it on the furniture it overlooks.
