The single 1-way switch is the most common format in an electrical installation — but there is no requirement for it to be trivial.
One single switch control a single lighting circuit from a single point. This is the standard configuration for the vast majority of rooms: bedroom, office, kitchen, hallway. A single switch switches on or off a single group of lights, with no possibility of acting from another point. Simple, universal, reliable.
What changes from one model to another is only the finishing and style. Simple switch or go-and-go?
The distinction is important before you buy. One single switch 1 standard track controls a circuit from a single point — if you turn off the light when entering a room, you have to come back to the same place to turn it back on. One Go-and-go switch (also called intermediate in some ranges) allows control of the same circuit from two different points — typically the entrance and exit of a corridor, or the bottom and top of a staircase.
If you install a switch in a room with a single input, the simple model is enough. If you have two access points or if you want two commands for the same circuit, choose a back and forth. In case of doubt, check your existing installation or ask an electrician — replacing a simple switch with a back and forth requires a modification of the wiring.
Straight edges or rounded edges: which range to choose?
